Wealth & Wisdom? 2.10.14
by Aaron K.
Rich people may think they are wise, but a poor person with discernment can see right through them. (Proverbs 28:11 NLT)
Achievement and wealth has a way of inflaming a human heart to find position and merit in its own strength…with the heart growing proud that it has the world wired, thinking it a "special" ability to create value and wealth disportionate to others. Where money is idolized this man appears wise…while discernment driven from another Great Affection sees right though. The discerning man knows wealth is no measure of man’s true wisdom and instead understands it as a potential source of great folly…for it can be a great deceiver causing man to think he has some sort of divine favor when in reality he is a lost soul separated from his Creator.
Action. My sons, God is the great definer of our lot in life using money as just one of many tools for developing us increasingly into the image of Christ. Wealth for one man is a blessing and for another a great curse. For one a tool for increased wisdom for another an accelerant to great folly. The world perceives and esteems wealth as a visible standard for wisdom because money is a supreme idol of our day. The godly man knows and discerns that it’s a man’s heart proximity to God that ever expands true wisdom. Be wise? Know God!
