Gentle slope, soft underfoot. 10.16.13

"It does not matter how small the sins are provided that their cumulative effect is to edge the man away from the Light out into the Nothing. Murder is no better than cards if cards can do the trick. Indeed the safest road to hell is the gradual one-the gentle slope, soft underfoot, without sudden turnings, without milestones, without signposts…"-CS Lewis, Screwtape Letters

Murder is no better than cards if cards can do the trick in edging man away from the Light and into Nothing. How subtle are tricks of the Great Deceiver? Whatever it takes however big or small to edge man away from intimacy with his Creator God. It leaves little room other than to ask…what is our small sin?

Action. My sons, we are the compound effect of our seemingly unrecognizably small daily choices and habits in life. For they gradually draw us closer to the Light of Christ or further away into nothing. The godly man knows Satan’s ultimate goal in the Christian’s life, whether murder or cards…whatever small means necessary to edge man away from God. The wise man reflects closely upon his small choices and actions in life.
