Environment reveals the heart. 10.29.12

If you are wise and understand God’s ways, prove it by living an honorable life, doing good works with the humility that comes from wisdom. For jealousy and selfishness are not God’s kind of wisdom. Such things are earthly, unspiritual, and demonic. For wherever there is jealousy and selfish ambition, there you will find disorder and evil of every kind.
But the wisdom from above is first of all pure. It is also peace loving, gentle at all times, and willing to yield to others. It is full of mercy and good deeds. It shows no favoritism and is always sincere. And those who are peacemakers will plant seeds of peace and reap a harvest of righteousness. (James 3:13, 15-18 NLT)

The sum of any environment is determined by the hearts of its members. Our pride is tricky as all it takes is one person’s spoken word born from a spirit of jealously or selfish ambition to quickly spoil and destroy a team. A good leader is sensitive to the temperature of the environment, being aware and taking note of the tangible evidences of their heart and the hearts of it’s various members. Action. My sons, this practically functions much like the intuition our wives have about people…for they are keen and discerning to the issues of heart that lay unseen for wisely they know it is only a matter of time before they become visible. A wise man is clear and decisive about who he has close associations with. When issues of pride and ambition flare up quickly address it individually in our heart and with others…don’t let it fester. If it proves to be a consistent character trait continual greeted with arrogant behavior, this person is revealing themselves the fool. Wise men know how distructive people like this are, proactively removing themselves or the person from the environment, knowing it is only a matter of time before disorder and evil reveal itself.
