The tool of discipline. 10.15.12

No discipline is enjoyable while it is happening—it’s painful! But afterward there will be a peaceful harvest of right living for those who are trained in this way. (Hebrews 12:11 NLT)

For the moment all discipline seems painful rather than pleasant, but later it yields the peaceful fruit of righteousness to those who have been trained by it. (Hebrews 12:11 ESV)

Self-control and discipline. Tools used by God to redeem and refine a sinful human life to function more inline with His character over time. No surprise, God’s general will for any human life; the accurate reflection of the image of the Creator in His creation. These tools are very unique…in that they can be willingly, self-imposed with help of the Holy Spirit or forced upon an individual through the consequences of their choices. The goal remains the same, but the means vary greatly. Action. My sons, understand fully that perfect living is impossible; sin will be with us until our last breath. It’s very presence proves our need for a Savior…so give thanks to God for the Good News of Jesus. But understand also, God ordains and designs mankind with free-will giving them the freedom to reap what they sow. Undisciplined, disobedient, easy, go-with-the-flow living reaps the cursing of poor choice and forced consequence…while self-imposed discipline coupled with obedient, harder-at-first living reaps the peaceful long-term fruit of blessed, right living. What great joy it must be when a child, independent and free in their own will, chooses to pursue, love and obey their Heavenly Father. Perhaps that’s just one of the designed reasons for man’s free-will…for God’s greatest glory and joy.
