Solomon’s advice on the best way to live. 11.8.11 & 10.11.12

After looking at the way things are on this earth, here’s what I’ve decided is the best way to live: Take care of yourself, have a good time, and make the most of whatever job you have for as long as God gives you life. And that’s about it. That’s the human lot. Yes, we should make the most of what God gives, both the bounty and the capacity to enjoy it, accepting what’s given and delighting in the work. It’s God’s gift! God deals out joy in the present, the now. It’s useless to brood over how long we might live. (Ecclesiastes 5:18-20 MSG)

As Solomon reflects on his life of grand achievements, he shares the so what. Taking into account all he has experienced in the world, he advises one to come to understand their lot in life, making the most of it not only in seeking to increase the bounty of it, but more importantly increasing their capacity to enjoy it. He shares that the secret in this is in understanding that joy is designed by God into the present moment. Only when we accept and delight in the daily gifts of our creator are we most blessed. Hopes of a better tomorrow and concerns over the past rob a person of the gift of today. Action. My sons. Solomon gives the key to contentment above. In every season of life accept your current lot, seeking always to increase the bounty of it, while also increasing your capacity to enjoy each stage. For cursed is the man who works hard yet experiences no joy. Learn to receive each day with gratefulness, delighting in the reality of the day…for blessed living is experienced by being fully present in the moments. In your life pursuit’s please don’t miss out on God’s simple gift of today…for that is all we truly have.
