What is contentment and where is it found? 3.12.12

"Contentment is essentially accepting from God’s hand what He sends because we know that He is good and therefore it is good." -J.I. Packer.

Contentment is the freedom that comes when prosperity and poverty do not matter; to accept what we have and "to want but little", as Thoreau advised. The more we choose contentment, the more God sets us free. The more He sets us free, the more we choose contentment.-Margin by Richard Swenson.

Contentment…the rare jewel of the Chrisitan life. So hard to achieve and maintain, because no formula for it exists. It truly is a secret….only being savored and enjoyed by those who choose it, seeking after it and pursuing it. Contentment is not a natural state, in fact discontent being much more the default. The wise man is not deceived by the empty promises of the world and it’s shiny pursuits, instead he lives in the world with his heart set on pursuing contentment. Action. My sons, contentment is an attitude of the heart, not based at all on circumstances or conditions of life…in fact in reality contentment many times is a functional inverse to the prosperous seasons of life. Remeber always the man who has God has all things…in Him is man truly rich. Pursue faithfulness and excellence in whatever you do and set your heart firmly on pursuing the rare jewel of contentment…for in this will be truly blessed.
