The tragedy of modern man. 2.29.12

"the tragedy of modern man is not that he knows less and less about the meaning of his own life, but that it bothers him less and less…"-Os Guiness

Sloth, one of the seven deadly sins, is categorized by many simply as laziness and indifference…Os Guiness calling it "the noonday demon." Sadly the true definition of sloth can easily be lost in the common terms used to define it. Sloth in reality is a condition of spiritual dejection where an one has given up the pursuit of God, resulting in inner despair. This condition can exist just as much in someone who appears super active as one who is a lazy couch potato. Sloth is the numbness of no longer caring about anything…the proverbial "whatever"…seeing that life is broken and lacking when pursued separate from God. The modern life of convienence and comfort, which are not to be shunned…allow for sloth to reside close. Action. My sons, the world and your role in it is designed to pursuit God. The design does not depend or change upon your willingness to acknowledge it; pursue Him and vibrant, full life is the fruit…refrain from the pursuit and sloth and cursing will follow. Knowing God’s character and searching out His design and presence in every detail of life is the joyful journey of life. When the "noon day demon" of sloth and despondence come knocking, which it does for everyone…prayerfully seek Gods purspose and presence in the moment…remembering Him, for it is a spiritual condition of the heart.
