Game of life is about replacing error with truth. 10.31.11

From Evernote:

Game of life is about replacing error with truth. 10.31.11

"One, for example, has lost all his property, all his family, and he is left alone in the world a poor and homeless old man. Yet no one can ever detect a tremor of complaint or a weakness anywhere in his nature, simply because he has so completely learned the science of right thinking that he can shut out of his mind or neutralize with its mental antidote anything which would cause him pain or injury. He neutralizes discord with harmony, error with truth." -Miracle of Right Thought

The game of life is truly won or lost in our mind. For the sowing of thought always reaps the equivalent action…life being the outward expression of our innner thought life. The wise, skillful man has come to realize the battle in the mind is in replacing error with truth. Satan has no more need to be effective then to cause us to think incorrectly believing error, rather than the truth of Gods word. Error says we are worthless, Truth says we are fearfully and wonderfully made. Error says be afraid and discourage for circumstances aren’t favorable. Truth says be strong and courageous, don’t be afraid or discouraged for God is with us always. Action. My sons, think correctly in life. In order to spot error you must know the truth, so be in Gods Word everyday of your life year after year, so that you wash and reprogram your mind with truth. Train yourself with mental antidotes, replacing the bad thought of error with the opposite good thought of truth…do it quickly…don’t let error sit and fester in your mind…soon you’ll develope the blessed habit of right, corrective thought.

Source of confidence and boldness. 10.27.11

From Evernote:

Source of confidence and boldness. 10.27.11

The wicked run away when no one is chasing them, but the godly are as bold as lions. (Proverbs 28:1 NLT)

The wicked are edgy with guilt, ready to run off even when no one’s after them; Honest people are relaxed and confident, bold as lions. (Proverbs 28:1 MSG)

Authentic integrity and a pure concience before God, either fuel or diminsh our confidence and boldness in life. Since the beginning with Adam, sin causes a response in humans to hide and run, cowaring away from God and others. When we are in sin we feel convicted and guilty…many times being defensive or running from others because we feel like they trying to expose us…chasing after us…when in reality no one is even chasing..it just normal human interaction. In this state man becomes weak and cowardly run away from responsibilities and duties of life. The opposite being true also, the clearer our conscience before God…the bolder and more confidently we engage in life and others. We acknowledge daily that we "are" sinners who need a perfect savior, yet always confess and refuse to hide that sin from God, who already sees all anyway. Transparency and authenticity with God and others…provide a man a confident, relaxed peace in all seasons of life for he is real thru and thru. Action. My sons, courage, confidence and boldness as a christian man can not be fabricated, it is the fruitful by product of a pure authentic heart before God and others. Desire to be a strong confident man in your life pursuing real integrity in all things.

Influence of Media. 10.26.11

From Evernote:

Influence of Media. 10.26.11

"The great danger of media is that it gives us a very perverted view of world" Conpound Efffect by Darren Hardy

Our view of the world becomes that of which we allow to consume our focus. Modern media subtly influences us each and every day, many times in ways that are not even noticeable. Unfortunately the influence is a perverted one…not true to reality…for media is based on attracting viewers and the only way to do it is by playing on fear and all the other human desires. If we are evening news junkies we quickly become despressed at all the negative news. If we are talk radio junkies we develope a strong argumentative view on certain minor topics making them supreme. Media is the window into the souls our eroding culture…for media is soley a provider of what people want. Action. My sons, a wise man will be on guard and take responsibility for what he allows his eyes and mind to view. You will be influenced by what you view and read, so pursue encouraging, positive forms of media. Turn off the tv and develope the good habit of reading good books for this simple habit will bless and serve you greatly in your life.

Simple consistency. 10.25.11

From Evernote:

Simple consistency. 10.25.11

"Consistency is the key to achieving and maintaing momentum." -the Compound Effect by Darren Hardy

Maintaining consistency and momentum in our rythms and habits of life is challenging to say the least, yet of utmost importance…for they mold all of our life, good or bad. Our habits and daily rythms are much like that of high speed train…very challenging to get going at first yet unbelievably powerful once momentum takes over and the train begins reaching full speed. At first small wooden blocks can keep a train from moving yet at full speed steel walls can’t even stop it’s forward momentum. Action. My sons, your daily habits and rythms will define your life. Think simple, small manageable habits knowing only when maintained consistently over a long period time do they become a powerful force catapulting you into higher levels of effectiveness. Once momentum grabs the effort required to maintain is small and almost effortless…the big challenge is in getting going and getting the new habits to grab hold…remeber victory lies in simple consistency.

Know it alls have the darkest future. 10.18.11

From Evernote:

Know it alls have the darkest future. 10.18.11

Lazy people take food in their hand but don’t even lift it to their mouth. Lazy people consider themselves smarter than seven wise counselors. (Proverbs 26:15, 16 NLT)

The lazy fool is permanently helpless not soley because he lacks a work ethic, but more importantly because he thinks he knows it all. A lazy man who is teachable at least has hope if he can realize the problem while working to overcome it, but the fool who thinks he knows it all is the one really in trouble…for no amount of wise guidance can help him. This man’s life is governed by an inaccurate view of God and His sovereign design for a man’s life. Action. My sons, laziness and foolishness begin first in the mind, springing up from improper thinking and eventually gives way to the spoiled fruit of poor actions in life. Maintain a teachable humble spirit always, taking responsibility for your thought life…seeking to counteract and overcome the lazy, foolish tendencies we all share in life.

Don’t work yourself into the spotlight. 10.14.11

From Evernote:

Don’t work yourself into the spotlight. 10.14.11

Don’t work yourself into the spotlight; don’t push your way into the place of prominence. It’s better to be promoted to a place of honor than face humiliation by being demoted. (Proverbs 25:6, 7 MSG)

Gods timing with honor and promotion is perfect and complete. If we rush ahead seeking a place of prominence ahead of Gods timing, we do it to our own folly…for we are not prepared for the position. One might be prepared skill wise, but character wise may not be mature enough to handle an honorable position with humility and love…still maintaining the character of Christ. Positions of honor begin to fan pride and ego, which can distort ones view of the world, feeling they are more at the center than others, becoming more and more selfish. Action. My sons, agressively pursue challenges and growing responsibilities as a means learning and fulfilling God given potential, don’t just admire and pursue a position of honor. Honor is a fruitful by product of faithfulness, if God feels you can handle a certain level of honor and influence without jacking up your life, he will promote in his perfect timing, so be patient and content in his timing. Prayerfully and respectfully seek to increase levels of influence in life, not honor, for greater influence, means more resources and leverage to do greater good in your life.

“The fields preached me a sermon” 10.13.11

From Evernote:

"The fields preached me a sermon" 10.13.11

One day I walked by the field of an old lazybones, and then passed the vineyard of a lout; They were overgrown with weeds, thick with thistles, all the fences broken down. I took a long look and pondered what I saw; the fields preached me a sermon and I listened: "A nap here, a nap there, a day off here, a day off there, sit back, take it easy-do you know what comes next? Just this: You can look forward to a dirt-poor life, with poverty as your permanent houseguest!" (Proverbs 24:30-34 MSG)

For those with a heart for wisdom life is continually preaching a sermon. As we observe the events and behavior of those around us, proverbial lessons are preached and supported all around us. Much like the verse above, the condition of the lazy man’s field spoke great wisdom to the observer on the importance of discipline as well as the adverse effects when it is lacking. The same holds true every moment of everyday, if we are wise enough to observe we will see Gods Word play out all over the place without fail. Action. My sons, there are two ways to learn, either by your own experiences or learning from the experiences of others. The later is quicker and far less expensive, yet is rare because it requires a special heart condition that infact desires to learn the lesson as well a humility in knowing they are not the exception to Gods rules and design. Seek to grow in wisdom each day and life will preach to you real tangible parables proving the truth of God Word continually showing Him as the master designer of the world, people and their behavior.

Lead by example. 10.11.11

From Evernote:

Lead by example. 10.11.11

Don’t lord it over the people assigned to your care, but lead them by your own good example. (1 Peter 5:3 NLT)

Who do you most admire? When it comes to who we admire and respect, it goes far beyond positional or performance based leadership, but instead touches on all of life. For those who we admire, we watch from afar seeing a life that invokes in us desire to follow based on the example we see, not the words we hear. Action. My sons, desire to live a successful life as God defines it, in all areas reflecting the character and glory of God. Don’t try and manufacturer leadership and influence for over time your life example will be what speaks loudest, not your words. Influence and leadership is a fruitful by product of the obedient life.

Entrepreneurial Vocation. 10.10.11

From Evernote:

Entrepreneurial Vocation. 10.10.11

In fact, entrepreneurial capitalism requires a whole host of virtues. Before entrepreneurs can invest capital, for instance, they must accumulate it. So unlike gluttons and hedonists, entrepreneurs set aside rather than consume much of their wealth. Unlike misers and cowards, however, they risk rather than hoard what they have saved, providing stability for those employed by their endeavors. Unlike skeptics, they have faith in their neighbors, their partners, their society, their employees, “in the compensatory logic of the cosmos.” Unlike the self-absorbed, they anticipate the needs of others, even needs that no one else may have imagined. Unlike the impetuous, they make disciplined choices. Unlike the automaton, they freely discover new ways of creating and combining resources to meet the needs. This cluster of virtues, not the vice of greed, is the essence of what the Reverend Robert Sirico calls the “entrepreneurial vocation.” -Jay Richards, ‘Money, Greed and God’

The excerpt above was from a section describing Gods infinitely wise design of the marketplace and the virtues that govern it’s advancement. Many abstain from the marketplace vocations for they feel it is a system controlled by greed…when in reality it more than any other sphere in society is built upon the very character of God. Saving, investing, exercising faith, providing security for workers, focusing on needs of others, being disciplined, creating new value…all reflecting Gods glory and character. The free market quickly rewards these behaviors and quickly punishes their opposites…for business is designed by God to serve his creation. Action. My sons, God is in everything, so whatever sphere of life He calls you vocationally, know that he designed it to function best when His character is reflected best, so make that your daily process you pursuit.

Reputation is everything. 10.8.11

From Evernote:

Reputation is everything. 10.8.11

A sterling reputation is better than striking it rich; a gracious spirit is better than money in the bank. (Proverbs 22:1 MSG)

A mans heart whether he likes it or not becomes his reputation in life and in business. A persons reputation spreads whether we like it or not, for every time a persons name comes up…whatever their reputation is will quickly get shared along with it….without fail. Whether that person has met the individual or not he will pass that along next time that persons name comes up…good or bad…so on and so forth, until a reputation is born. Not that our aim should be that all people like us…but we should aim to live peaceably with our fellow man, loving others and showing everyone respect based on being a created being of God. Action. My sons, your reputation whether good or bad will always precede you when you meet people and is a far bigger issue than you’ll ever realize. Do everything you can to protect it and if you think it has been tarnished with certain relationships…deal with it quickly, meet with those people addressing the concerns, so falsity or misunderstanding doesnt have a chance to grow. Desire to be a man that always seeks to do what’s right, even if difficult, with honest, authentic, direct speech…for that brings great honor to God.
