What to look for in a wife. 9.29.11

Don’t be concerned about the outward beauty of fancy hairstyles, expensive jewelry, or beautiful clothes. You should clothe yourselves instead with the beauty that comes from within, the unfading beauty of a gentle and quiet spirit, which is so precious to God. This is how the holy women of old made themselves beautiful. They trusted God and accepted the authority of their husbands. (1 Peter 3:3-5 NLT)

Happy wife…happy life! It’s so cliche, but so true…when home base is good, everything else can be falling apart in life for a man still has a peaceful shelter from the storm. On the other hand messed up wife, messed up life is true as well…for the rest of life can be thriving, but a man has no place to rest and share in the victories, for home base is a battlefield. A man reaps what he sows, depending what he looks for and values in a prospective wife. The verse above instructs the wife to not to be so focused on outward beauty but instead the inner beauty of the heart for that is what effects everything in the home. Action. My sons, beauty fades with time…when you are looking for a wife, you will of course be attracted to her, but make sure you asses if she has a gentle, quiet spirit; trusts the Lord and acknowledges and respects the authority and role of the husband. These seem like small issues when not married, but they are foundational pillars that make or break a marriage. A wise, blessed man looks for these qualities in a future wife..the fool admires external beauty far above internal beauty and pays an expensive price down the road for that decision.
